In reply to: password protect not workingfigured it out:
confirm that you have the same address filled in for both boxes in WordPress
“Settings” > “General”
two different addresses in those boxes could be confusing WordPress

Anybody have any idea why my password protect isn’t functioning? I’ve tried all the troubleshooting hints suggested and that didn’t work. I called my host company (Bluehost) and they couldn’t figure it out, either, they suggest it’s a WP problem.
???

In reply to: password protect not workingI re-uploaded all files except the ones noted, but there was NO .htaccess file located in the directory. after one was created, the permalinks started functioning as they should.
thank you!

In reply to: permalinksusing Fetch, I edited the .htaccess file in text edit
the .htaccess file seems to be fixed now as the site is back up, but the permalinks still don’t work. do you think it’s a permissions problem?

In reply to: password protect not workingYes. I deactivated all plugins, same problem.
Via FTP, I changed the plugin folder to “plugin.old” and created a new folder and added Akismet. That’s the only plugin I reactivated since all this happened.
I haven’t re-uploaded all files except and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. I will try that now…
