In reply to: YACCS Comments importBecause YACCS (and other third-party commenting services) technically aren’t a part of your blog, I don’t know that they can be imported. At least not smoothly. You’re basically exporting two separate sets of data: The Blogger content, and then the YACCS content. There would have to be an identifying tag for each Blogger post that matches with a tag in each YACCS comment box. I don’t think Blogger makes allowances for that.
I know HaloScan allows you to export/backup your comments, but I don’t know how that syncs with blog content.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: from WP directory to rootYes I have; the .htaccess code above is the result of generating new rewrite rules for the permalinks.

In reply to: from WP directory to rootIn lieu of an answer to the above, let me reframe the question, to see if I can get an idea of whether I’m on the right track or not:
When I moved my blog default from http://www.populationstatistic.com/wordpress to http://www.populationstatistic.com/, I assumed the permalinks (including for trackbacks and categories, etc) would also move from the /wordpress/ directory to the root, thus streamlining them (from “.com/wordpress/archive/year/month….” to “.com/archive/year/month”).
However, from digging around, I’m finding that blog content is getting archived into permalinks, but still under the /wordpress/ directory (ex: here). So the permalinks are being generated.
The problem is that the WP is outputting the archive links as coming out of the root, and they’re broken. Only the popup comments are generating correctly under the /wordpress/ directory.
So am I wasting my time trying to get the permalinks to work under the root? Does the “Blog Name” switch work only for the index page, and isn’t intended to affect the rest of the site structure?Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Permalink locationI don’t understand why you’d have to “hunt” for a permalink when you know it’s going to be at the bottom of the post….

In reply to: Statistics: how important are they to you?Hits and visits are my only reason for existing. 🙂
But (more) seriously, folks…. I certainly like knowing how much traffic I’m getting, and from where. Half the fun is being led to the referring sites that I’d been previously unaware from.
I just installed the industry standard: Sitemeter. The novelty for me is enough satisfaction. I might switch it at some point.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Help–I did something stupid.Join the stupid club–I did the exact same thing yesterday. Here’s the advice I got:

As you can see, somehow the problem fixed itself for me, although now my permalinks don’t work, and I can’t edit my index.php through the WP interface. If you experience the same problems, let me know, maybe we can figure it out together.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: from WP directory to rootAnybody? I’m at my wit’s end. Any help will be enormously appreciated.

In reply to: messed up WordPress AddressYo–nevermind, for some reason I was able to get back into the WP admin functions, and fixed all.
But Podz, thanks for the tip on phpadmin. When I get beyond the newbie stage, I’ll have to test it out.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: messed up WordPress AddressSorry, you lost me. What is phpadmin? Is it an editing program?

In reply to: remove allowed markup text on comments page?I’d also like to remove this info, or maybe just put in a popup or drop-down link. I agree, it’s basically just clutter.

In reply to: Cannot get rid of linksIt looks like the action checkboxes in your WP interface aren’t showing up in whatever version of IE you’re using. Try to access WP admin through another browser and see if that doesn’t do it.
Alternately, you could go into your template code, find the markup for those links, and just delete them.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Has anyone done a migration from blogspotBlogspot.com is the same as Blogger–blogspot is the free hosting service that many Blogger users use (you can use Blogger without blogspot, but can’t use blogspot without Blogger). So the built-in import tool for Blogger will work no problem.

In reply to: Images don’t show in posts?I just checked, IE 5.1 on Mac OS9.2, image (http://sekhu.net/stuff/jinfc.jpg) comes up fine, with text wrapped right. I’m thinking it’s something in your browser settings? (If you installed Mozilla after IE, it likely copied the same settings that IE had).

In reply to: WordPress as a journalIt occurs to me that you don’t really need for your student contributors to use a blog interface at all. Why not just have them submit their stuff to you via email (or network), you proof it, and then you post it to the blog in the final, edited version? You can attach the author’s name to it no problem. If the posts have to pass through your approval anyway, I don’t see the purpose of giving the students access to the blog’s publishing interface at all–they’re not going to be able to post anytime/anywhere they want. Just a thought.
