In reply to: Virtual editorJames,
‘magic quotes runtime–it was disabled by my webhoster. What is that, and how did I end up with it?

In reply to: Virtual editorHey James,
I don’t exactly know what I did, but for whatever reason the visual editor is visible again, and working. Still no box appearing when I click on comment reply, but I can work around that.
Not sure if it’s temporary and I have yet to publish post, but I’m going to give it a couple of days to see what happens.
I can’t thank you enough for your help mate, but should our paths ever cross during our lifetime–I owe you a couple of drinks mate.
Cheers

In reply to: Virtual editorThanks mate. I’m going to pass this info on to the techie at Canadian Webhosting; let him deal with the problem, after all it worsened after they started mucking around in the database.
I will get back to you, but it won’t be today. It’s late in the afternoon here and I’m done for the day. I can’t thank you enough mate.
Cheers,
Don

In reply to: Virtual editorSorry James, you’ve lost me mate.
I do this via my file manager in c/panel, right?
I don’t understand ‘fresh copies from the download’>
I go into the public html– double click wp-admin and then a lot of files with data are loaded, from css to widget php files.
Are you suggesting that I deleted the entire wp-admin file and then create another one in using notepad then uploading. What would I put in that file? Where would I find that information, or do I just upload a blank file folder that says wp-admin. Mate I’m confused.

In reply to: Virtual editorLol, upgrade was successful, but still same issue with visual editor.

In reply to: Virtual editorWhich files would be corrupted. I can get my webhoster to back up the files–they collect enough money from me. It’s the least they can do.

In reply to: Virtual editorSuccess mate. Upgrade to 3.0.1 successful.

In reply to: Virtual editorFTP credentials. That’s what I thought.

In reply to: Virtual editorI’m accessing via my c/panel to install wordpress. For whatever reason it isn’t completing the task. I have my webhoster looking into that now.
Yesterday they reinstalled a previous version of wordpress ‘2.9.2’ and since then that has created other problems.
I’m not tech saavy mate, and I’m struggling to interpret all the info everybody has given me so far, but I’m at the point where I think that reinstalling the latest version on all my domains is going to be what corrects the problem, but I’m concerned about losing three years worth of data. My webhost techies are apparently looking at this particular problem I am having. They say they have never experienced this kind of problem before. My webhoster is Canadian Webhosting.

In reply to: Virtual editorUntil now I never had any problems. These issues arose a few days after upgrading to latest version. Interesting thing; I tried to automatically upgrade to latest version again, and I am now asked to provide Hostname, username, password and connection type, which never use to happen before.
What do they mean ‘host name’?

In reply to: Virtual editorI can’t even do that mate. I tried creating a subdomain so that I could install WordPress, but was stopped in my tracks. Install via Fantastico wouldn’t proceed.
The other thing is–I have a lot of data, most of which I want to retain due to, paid ads in the content.

In reply to: Virtual editordidn’t work. Noticed another problem. Used to be able to be to tick ‘plug in’ and all boxes would be ticked. Now I have to do it manually, tick each box one at a time. Also, when I click reply under comment, nothing happens. No reply box appears.

In reply to: Virtual editorOh and I have the only user profile. Nobody else has access to dashboards on any of my domains.
