Switching the GoDaddy server’s OS to Linux did the trick for me. I was able to log into the blog, update WordPress, etc.
All functions of the blog are working better with the upgrade.

I am getting the same error message. I’ve just switched the OS to Linux and am awaiting the switchover to see if that resolves the problem. Perhaps the difference between your situation and mine is that I’ve been running my WordPress blog successfully for a couple of years on GoDaddy’s Windows servers, and now with the upgrade, it’s no longer working.
Let us all know if and when this problem is resolved and how you did it.
Thanks.
I am getting the same error message. I am also using GoDaddy. I’ve been using WordPress on a GoDaddy website and SQL database for years.
Downstream is another user having the same problem and the recommendation there is to switch from Windows OS to Linux. I have done that and am awaiting the switchover to see if that helps.
Please keep us notified if this is resolved and what the solution is.
I too am just a lowly graphic designer and need step by step instructions.
Thanks!

In reply to: Reordering sidebar elements – how to?I opened my theme’s sidebar.php file and looked at it and don’t see some of the Link Categories that I created and should be there such as Blogroll, etc.
WordPress should write to that file if I add a new Link Category, shouldn’t it? Yet even though I added a new Link Category recently, the timestamps of the files in my wp-content directory remain older. The only files that are up to date are the image files I’ve uploaded.

In reply to: Plugins not listed in Plugin ManagementThank you whooami, but I’m not sure that helps me. I’m still hoping to get an answer.
One reason I really want to get my plugins working is to solve my main problem of WordPress not sending emails with passwords to people who register. Nor does it hold comments, nor does it notify the administrator when a comment is posted.
