I have been coming to the WP forums for 8 or 9 years for my various blogs. I don’t expect instant answers. I loved the way the community pitched in – in fact, of all forums and major blogs I’ve been in – which is enough – this is the most international.

Now I don’t see any answers from the community, and you write 5 comments in a row, making me feel defensive, and not happy.

I tried to go to the Slack link, whatever that is, but it asks me to SIGN IN again. Sorry, fail.

Your verbiage sounds good. Anything to help, at this point.

I haven’t been in here in months, and yet now I have to go to a special complaint section – Meta Trac? – to write, again, my problem with fonts that are about size 6 or 8? Is this not obvious to everyone?

Maybe I haven’t found it yet, but so far there is not one thing about this revised site that is good or helpful, and I see a lot of real problems – I already pointed out specifics. Not into arguing. Thank you for your time.

Did you see my question from a week ago?

Thanks for a response, and your own experience!
Too bad, and NO THANKS to developer.

I don’t have an “Automattic bit.” I brought it up once. I was told this in a Facebook WP group. If you are saying it’s WP itself who has turned this forum into such a mess, oh, that’s bad. Shame on WP for not remembering the importance of a menu with important links!!!

The font I am talking about is in the comment box only – as I write this – is about 6px or 8. IMO, that’s too small.

Maybe I wasn’t clear: Yes, I can see my own comments. Strangely enough, that’s not why I come to these forums. It’s to see any REPLIES. The old forum told me of any replies, and how long ago they were made.

So here is a roundup of what I consider to be major flaws in this revised forum:
    1. Making people wait 72 hours for a reply! If you answer sooner, which you did for me, then why scare people, esp newbies, with that warning?
    2. Splitting the forum into 9? 12? sections. Did someone think that it would be easier to search 9 different times in 9 sections for an answer, rather than just one? 🙂
    3. Maybe it’s just me, but it took me a good 10 minutes to even find where to Log in. And here’s an idea: have a text somewhere that says YOU MUST BE LOGGED IN TO START A NEW TOPIC OR COMMENT.
    4. In one’s profile indicate if there are any REPLIES or new comments to a thread or topic started. Now there’s bupkus.

I truly respect the time of the Mods here – I recognize some of your names from before. I don’t expect an answer. I do find it very sad that so many comments on problems people have have no other WP regular users helping now. I saw so much generosity here, but I think you’ve made this forum too difficult to navigate. Perhaps there’s another reason I’m not aware of…

I’ve been coming here for 10 years. I understand duplicate threads. I didn’t do that. I had 2 threads, one about my actual problem, loss of traffic, and one about this new forum. Two very different things.

Someone closed the other thread instantly, within 30 minutes. I could see the suggestion to go to the theme, so then I went over there to post it – the “duplicate” was after you closed that thread.

Anyway, to look at the big picture: this forum completely sucks now. Why are there 12 different modules to guess about for where these important forums are?????? Why is there no simple link to the forums??

I feel so sorry for newbies – I know how dependent I was with my first blogs – on coming here for help. They won’t find it.

Also: I can’t even see in my profile now if someone has replied to me! That is essential when you are waiting for answers. What, I should click on each threat again? Also: this very form I’m writing in has a font so small I can barely see it. This is not my browser, since I have not seen this anywere else, including my many forums.

This forum is now not even navigable, and has big accessibility issues. Is this what Automattic did?

    Thanks for replies.

I’m glad you aren’t pushing anyone to wordpress.com. I know it’s NOT the same as ww.wp.xz.cn. That’s why I wrote that.

I don’t expect anything. Sometimes I don’t get an answer. But usually I feel confident I will. Just glancing around, I see much fewer answers, and they are usually by Mods. I don’t know why not regular commenters.

I’m quite sure no one wants to bother these volunteers. I consider myself very fortunate to get an answer from one, but have also been grateful for just regular people. I was hoping that someone might comment on my original problem, in another thread, on losing traffic, but I see that it is Closed. I just don’t get what’s happening here. Why would a thread be closed in just 3 hours?

Finally, please check your own link to the forum. It’s not direct. It goes to a general support page with a lot of text, and 12 different modules. It’s a guessing game! I had to try a few, trial and error, to actually find the forum. This just seems like bad redirection to me, and it’s what I mean by “unfriendly.”

I’ll do that, thanks. I assume that theme was tested, but maybe it’s just that theme and not a site-wide problem.

I am replying to this question because I can’t find anyplace to ask my own question.

I haven’t been on WP forums in a while and I could barely find where to log in. Now I can’t find one place to start a topic or ask a question. Why would this be a hidden link? Can the mod help?

Thanks, girlieworks. Now I will wait for SOMEONE ELSE to develop this highly handy widget or change. 🙂

Does anyone know of a fix or plugin for this, or what it might be called? With the list of recent posts (in Activity?) to have usable links there, not just edit links, are invaluable for sharing on social media.

    Thread Starter Drawer2

    (@drawer2)

    James,

I’m not quite getting this. That requires going to the Posts section, another trip that wasn’t necessary before.

Under Activity it shows only the Edit link now. No good for sharing. So then I have to go to the edit page, or all Posts, as you did. Since most of what I want to share is recent posts, doesn’t it make sense that we would want direct links to them for the recent ones,on our Dashboard? It was like this for years before.

I bet there’s a plugin for this, but did not find it yet.

Yes, I need the column in every page, not just home. It does say several columns available, but…not for free version?

I think the problem might be in twenty fourteen.

I have 5 blogs, different themes, and all have the same robots.txt that I wrote especially to disallow Google Image-bot. All work fine except Twenty Fourteen, which seems to have its own robots.txt. I don’t get it.

    Thread Starter Drawer2

    (@drawer2)

    Hi, Kori,

As I said in the first paragraph, I already disallow indexing of images. However, that is only for images I uploaded after I wrote the robot.txt – it doesn’t affect images Google snatched before that, unfortunately!

    Thread Starter Drawer2

    (@drawer2)

I tried deleting the original image through the Media manager. It’s gone from the library. Yet, Google is still linking to it.

Then I had to go to my FTP, and I could see it still in my uploads, even though it’s gone from the Media Library! This seems like a flaw/glitch in WordPress.

So in FTP, I deleted the 2 bigger sizes, and kept the thumbnails for 2 cartoons, and tested that in Google. Interestingly, they are so greedy and desperate for images that they first enlarged the 150px wide thumbnail image to 255px in one and 231px in another, under image info, and then they enlarged the whole thing again, extrapolated and blurry, to 500px.

I read once that there is a way to serve Google only thumbnails. Could someone please tell me how to do this?
