I want to point that enabling Deep scan option in Media scan mode helps to detect images added with Responsive Light-box & Gallery plugin. I didn’t use this option previously, so I slightly misjudged Media Sweep. But with it the plugin processed all media files correctly and marked truly unused media as unused with no mistakes.
Finally, the plugin worked and executed the scan! I turned on debug mode in WordPress and error with JSON disappeared but instead of it there was another error “Table mswp_scans cannot be created”.
So I viewed the debug.log and it showed:
[18-Nov-2025 08:34:00 UTC] WordPress database error CREATE command denied to user ‘my username’@’localhost’ for tablewp_site_data.wp_mswp_scansfor query…
Then I checked the mySQL users rights and detected that creation and altering of mySQL tables were disabled. I enabled them and Media Sweep performed its scan successfully.
So now there aren’t any errors at all!
I analyzed the scan results and noticed that the plugin correctly shows unused images except for those, which are used in galleries, made by Responsive Light-box & Gallery.
Alright then! I’ll test the plugin within 1-2 days and will write a review!
Media Sweep surely must have millions of installations!Yes, REST API was disabled by plugins for security and optimization reasons.
Now https://easy-music-learning.ru/wp-json/ loads correctly.
I use 3 plugins for WordPress optimization and security and I did the following:
1. All In One Security (AIOS) – Firewall – WP REST API – Disallow unauthorized REST requests – I turned it off.
2. Clearfy – Code – Clear code – Disable JSON REST API – I turned it off.
3. Admin & Site Enhancement (ASE) – Disable Components – Disable REST API – I turned it off.
But, alas, problem still exists and I can’t scan media files. The same error is shown:
“Failed to start scan: The response is not a valid JSON response”.
And nonetheless I deleted the security header above the error “502 Bad Gateway nginx” still apperas but now not always, but when I log out from admin area or change some settings in WordPress.By the way, other WordPress websites works on the same web server like the main website and they have the same web server settings. And the plugin works fine there without any errors. So I think the matter is somehow related not to the web-server, but to WordPress and plugins configuration.
P.S.: I think this is the best plugin that exists to clean unused media. I tried many other plugins but none of them can compare with it. As soon as I solve this problem (I hope so) I will definitely write a 5 star review on it.- This reply was modified 6 months, 1 week ago by Edward Bedarev.
Thank you for quick response and clear explanation! I’m glad that my reports can be useful. 😉
Yes, you’re right. Action must take place if many users report about this. Now that we have this in mind and I clarified for myself how exactly it works, I mark this topic as resolved.
P.S.: thanks for implementing Admin protection in Multi User Role feature! Now ASE users will definitely sleep well because they won’t lack the mightiness of Admin user on their websites. 🙂I’ve turned off caching (I use ISP Manager – Website -> Optimization and DDoS protection -> Enable Cache – Disabled). But the line following line still appears below any webpage:
<!– WP Optimize page cache – https://teamupdraft.com/wp-optimize/ – page NOT cached –>
I pleased with using WP-Optimize as database tool. Yet even if cache worked fine there is no detailed options to set it up flexibly. So for caching I will figure out some other solutions such as W3 Total Cache or LiteSpeed Cache.Yes, sure – https://easy-music-learning.ru/
Thank you, Bowo! I viewed the image with Admin box disabled. Yeah, this will be perfect solution and surely will protect users from such a nasty situation. By the way, I want to say extra thanks for such a brilliant plugin! I’ve already posted 5 stars review on it. It’s totally awesome!
I closed this topic because I decided not to use this plugin anymore. I used it for a long time with Apache and it worked great, but with Nginx particulary for me it is not a solution. Thanks to the developer Emre Vona, but it’s time to make a change. Bye!

I asked my hosting support. They told me that mod_expires and mod_headers are activated, but the error message still appears. Wonder if there’s misunderstanding… “We successfully updated your .htaccess file”… but nginx doesn’t work with .htaccess file. May be there must be something like this “We successfully updated your nginx.conf file“.
I checked this on tastewp.com test WordPress website and it says: “Your website seems to use Cloudflare, which handles the browser caching rules”. It seems that I need to use Cloudflare for browser caching?
Additionally, on my main website if I change PHP handler from Fast CGI to CGI mode, which uses Apache server, then all works like a charm. But when I switch to Fast CGI, that uses nginx, the error from WP Optimize appears again.Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: [Sydney] How to translate search elements?Hi, @kmacharia! Thanks a lot. It works! Additional thanks for quick answer.
Hi! I want to inform, that the problem is resolved. Recently I ordered a new web-server and transferred all my WordPress websites there. And after that I tried to update this plug-in and it all is right. There is no more problem, described in this topic earlier.
The plugin works greatly and it’s perfect! So I marked this topic as resolved.
- WordPress version 6.7.2.
- PHP version 7.4.11
- Plugins list: Add From Server, Advanced Editor Tools, Affiliate Links, All In One WP Security Autoptimize, Category Order and Taxonomy Terms Order, cforms2, Clearfy Pro, Database Backup for WordPress, Disable All WordPress Updates, Duplicate PP, Expert Review, FeedbackWP, Fixed Widget, Genesis Columns Advanced, Html5 Audio Player PRO, Mistape, OmniVideo, Post Views Counter, Reading Progress Bar, Responsive Lightbox & Gallery, Search Meter, Simple Page Ordering, Smooth Page Scroll Up/Down Buttons, Table of Contents Plus, Widget Context, WP-Optimize, WP-PageNavi, WP Colorbox, wpDiscuz, WP Fastest Cache, WPRemark, WP YouTube Lyte, Yoast SEO, WP Typograph Lyte.
- Theme – Music Loud 2.0, 2011.
- Sorry, don’t know about this thing.
- OK, probably will execute this and share results.
P.S.: I installed Affiliate Links plugin on another WordPress website in the subdomain on the same server and it works nice and without this problem. There are less plugins there, but WordPress & Version are the same. I also installed the same WP theme – all works good. I think the problem is in plugins’ conflict. By comparison and exclusion method I will try to define the conflicting one.
The same plugins are: Add From Server, Advanced Editor Tools, Affiliate Links, All In One WP Security, Database Backup for WordPress, Disable All WordPress Updates, Simple Page Ordering, WP-Optimize, WP Fastest Cache. So they are not the problem causing.
Hi, Marc! Thanks for answer! Sorry, but I messed up with 2 different plugins: TOC+ and TOC Block. I use TOC+, not TOC block. So it was mistake to write this support request. You can delete it. Besides, I resolved my problem. :))
