Did you try starting using a default child theme? We are using a child theme to allow us to upgrade the main theme folder with each release.

Under the very bottom – it lets me change the header to a single color, but I want to add customer css that allows a second 2 pixel color at the bottom… See the picture – the yellow is what we are trying to figure out. .

Ok, but WordPress sanitizes that field and removes the ‘/’ now. So even if we try and include it, it strips it back out from that field (Settings > General Settings > Site Address (URL). You may have to start including logic to include that ‘/’ now.
