So nothing will show up for the template drop down for any theme unless/until a custom page template is created?
I guess my first question should be whether or not a custom page template is the best way to go. Say for example I wanted to create 7 pages all with a different background images and just a slight difference in the placement of text.
Is a custom page template the best way to go?

I am looking at this instruction but should the template drop down display on the page attribute screen. In theory at least the existing page templates ( about for example) should show up as an option. Am I correct with this assumption? If so why would they not be showing up. Is there something in the setup that I need to do?
