I should have written badly organized, not badly structured. This idea was supposed to fix that.

I am going to try to keyword/tag each page and then see if there is a good search widget I can use. I may have been over-thinking this in wanting to program drop-down lists.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Filterable list sounds like a possible answer. My website now is badly structured and what I am envisioning would be the best way to fix it.
I don’t know of a website that does this offhand, but I am pretty sure I have seen something similar.

What I want is to send the user to a particular page based on the year, month and date they select from drop-down list boxes. So yes, I am filtering the destination web page based on what is chosen in the box. I am doing this on pages, not posts. Also, different date combinations might lead to the same page. I am not looking for something published on the date chosen, I am looking to send people to specific content based on the date they choose.

    Thank you

Waynemeyer: Yes, this code survives a trip to the visual tab. This looks like a link with a colored background. That was going to be my fallback solution. I already started to do this directly in the visual editor with tinymce advanced plugin. This code will be handy to paste directly with fewer mouse clicks should I ever want or need to do it. Thank you

codemovement: yes, this is a button that survives going to the visual tab. Thanks very much for a quick html lesson.

I want a button to give a bit more visual interest to pages lacking in same due to my shallowness of knowledge. Said knowledge has become ever so slightly deeper. Thanks again

Waynmeyer: Thank you for the idea, I will try it in the next couple of days. I agree that your strategies are good, I would love to do them sometime, but they involve more time than I have now and I think that what I am trying ought to work. I believe I tried to disable the “auto P filter” in the tinymce settings and it did not work.

codemovement: Thank you also for the code snip and I will try that soon. I have seen other threads on this, and from those I am given to understand that tinymce is the default editor of WordPress, so to my mind it is a WordPress problem, and specifically a WordPress 4 problem. My WordPress 3 site seems to be not affected.

Perhaps someone officially connected to WordPress can comment on whether this is intended behavior? Is a more html-friendly editor available that can replace tinymce?

    Thank you

I am not very fluent in css or php, it is pretty easy to add html when I need it, and I need to not have this eat up a lot of my time. It seems reasonable to me to be able to do this and not have WordPress eat the code.

    Becky,

Thank you, these all look like useful ideas and good things to be aware of.

I have in the meantime restored all of my old galleries and I have just gotten a contract to produce an e-book, so I am not going to have time for this in the forseeable future. I don’t know the exact look or features my galleries would have in Nextgen, so I don’t know if it is worth the effort. If the import works, will I have to re-do all of the captions, alt tags, and keywords? Honestly, the look and features will have to be spectacular for me to do all of that work. I will be watching to see if either NextGen itself is fixed to allow work with the Media Library or if the other plugin that used to do this is updated to work with 2.x.

    Thank you

The only 2 that were copied after an hour were 6k and 16k. I am aware of sizing for the web. When showing larger pixel dimensions with detailed images the image can get to 300 or 400k, which is what I meant by “several”.

I had just done another post with installation details but it looks like I forgot them here. WordPress 3.6.1, latest version of NextGen just downloaded today. At the time any other gallery options from Jetpack were disabled.

No, I sort of buried it in the post, but they are all jpg. Several hundred kb at most.
