For anyone interested. The problem was being caused by a discontinued plugin (WooTabs) which was preventing any ajax-related fields on the product pages from working.

As a matter of interest, is there not a protocol by which purchasers of plugins should not be informed when this happens?

    Ok, no probs.

    Hi AIT

To be honest I restored the site from an earlier version and cached all the pages, hence the speed being ok. I’ve changed the version of PHP as per your instructions.

Since we last spoke I’ve run a Site Health Status and it’s showing 2 critical errors which, I assume, lie at the heart of the problem. They are as follows:-

    1) The REST API encountered an error:-
The REST API is one way WordPress, and other applications, communicate with the server. One example is the block editor screen, which relies on this to display, and save, your posts and pages.

The REST API request failed due to an error.
ERROR: [] cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received

    2) Your site could not complete a loopback request:-
Loopback requests are used to run scheduled events, and are also used by the built-in editors for themes and plugins to verify code stability.

The loopback request to your site failed, this means features relying on them are not currently working as expected.
ERROR: [] cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received.

    Thanks again
    Ivan

Right, so now I’ve gone to WordPress > Settings > Permalinks > clicked save changes button.

I’m now getting re-directed to a page stating:

Your server is running PHP version 5.5.38 but WordPress 5.2.3 requires at least 5.6.20.

    Hi again

The current state of play is that I have 3 plugins active – The7 Elements, The7 WPBakery Page Builder and Woocommerce. The site is still as slow as ever.

The current .htaccess file looks like this:-

    # Use BPS Custom Code to add php/php.ini Handler and Cache htaccess code and to save it permanently.

Now am I best reverting to a Vanilla .htaccess file or carry on de-activating the plugins?

    Thread Starter Mrikay

    (@mrikay)

So I’m better off reinstalling it and using it to do the troubleshooting?

    Thread Starter Mrikay

Steve, I have a subdomain. Does that mean I can just copy the example (with the subdomain) from the page to my .htaccess file?

    Thread Starter Mrikay

    (@mrikay)

    But BPS is not active?

    Thread Starter Mrikay

    (@mrikay)

Would this be considered a vanilla .htaccess file?
