In reply to: [WPvivid — Backup, Migration & Staging] Old URLs remain after migrationThanks for your reaction Tony. I have regenerated the CSS but the problem is still present. Uploads go to the wrong location. As far as I know I have no redirect or cache plugins.

In reply to: Spurious password reset request@corrinarusso the trick with the inline PNG is to stop simple robots from harvesting your email; 15 years ago I took over a website which was receiving several spams per day (mostly from Nigerian millionaires those days); replacing the existing
mailto:link with a PNG (screenshot of the link) reduced that to a few per week. It has the same aim as writingjohnDOTsmithATcompanyDOTcom, but IMHO looks nicer and is more user-friendly.As to security, I make backups and am reasonably security-aware, but my site is not likely to be a target of anything other than widespread robot-attacks. That is why I was surprised to see what looks like a human attack.

In reply to: [Neve] Automatically set keyboard focus to Search boxIt appears that the latest update (2.9.3) to Neve has fixed the problem. Thanks anyway.

In reply to: Plugin for Tiled submenuGeorge’s suggestion prompted me to investigate other plugins and indeed: Display Post Types has the features I needed: responsive, selectable content, adaptable styling.

In reply to: Plugin for Tiled submenuThanks George for your suggestion! I tried Genesis Blocks, it’s impressive but not what I need. I cannot scale the images or format the link text; and it doesn’t seem to be responsive (1, 2 or 3 columns depending on screen size). I haven’t yet finished RTFM so I may be premature.
Are there any other plugins with my functionality?

In reply to: [Neve] Automatically set keyboard focus to Search boxHallo Vytis, I added the script and it works on Windows, but not on Android. It’s late so I’ll investigate further tomorrow. But thanks, we’re on the track! Update: it works on my 10″ tablet in landscape but not portrait, and not at all on my 4″ phone; it seems not to work when the menu is a hamburger symbol.

In reply to: [Neve] Automatically set keyboard focus to Search boxI contacted my ISP but they couldn’t help. So I tried to learn a bit about jQuery; I’m still at a very basic level but I think I can understand Vytis’ script and I can’t see what is wrong with it. I have added jQuery to the tags in the hope of attracting other jQuery debugging experts.
The status now: I load jQuery (as per Vytis’ post of 23nov) and run a script (Vytis’ post of 16nov) but the search box doesn’t get focus. The test site is

In reply to: [Neve] Automatically set keyboard focus to Search boxHi Vytis, again thanks for your help. But you are going rather over my head! I don’t really know what jQuery is, and I haven’t dequeued it. I looked on my webhostingserver site but could find nothing which looked like jQuery. I shall ask my service provider how I can enable it.
Anyway I added your new script to the OrbitFox Header Scripts section, followed by your script from 2 weeks ago, but it doesn’t seem to have helped.
I shall post again when my service provider replies.
I thought I had created a user
vytison my test site but apparently I hadn’t. I have now, password is the 10 letters of your website.Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: [Neve] Automatically set keyboard focus to Search boxHi Vytis, thanks for your time and help. I’m afraid it still doesn’t work. Here is what I did:
* Made a new installation with only theme 2020; the search icon worked directly (when I clicked it the search box got focus).
* Installed Neve; default it had a search widget in the right sidebar, this was a Search Form so click and focus are the same thing.
* Removed the widget; no search available.
* Appearance>Customize>Header; in the Header Builder I shrank the Primary menu and added a Search Icon on the right; clicking the icon does not move the focus.
* Installed OrbitFox and your script; no change.Unfortunately I don’t know how to access console.log.
You can see my live site at
https://www.binnenstadduurzaam.nl/(it’s in Dutch, but the Search icon is at top right). Searching onderekshould give two hits. And my test site is at
https://prive.corryderek.nl/wp-test/Feel free to ignore what follows, I don’t want to obligate you in any way!
On the test site I have created a user
vytis, the password being the 10 letters of your website. In a week or two I shall delete the site and/or rebuild it, so if you want you can experiment on it. Mail to the webmaster (page Contact of the live site) comes into my inbox if you want to communicate that way.- This reply was modified 5 years, 6 months ago by NL_Derek.

In reply to: Absolute or Relative PathsThanks for your reply mrtom414. I use WP as a CMS for a simple website, and use the Gutenberg block-editor as much as possible.
If I understand correctly the answer to my question is: no, there is no general solution. Creating a plugin or theme variant is (way) over my pay grade!
So I shall continue diving into the HTML and editing the paths (fortunately my site is not very big or image-heavy).

In reply to: Soft Hyphen in Page TitleHello George and thanks for your reaction. You are right that the problem is only in the editor, sorry if that wasn’t clear. But I must disagree about it being a good thing. You and I (and most users of this forum) will not be confused by an HTML code, and if we see ampersand-eks-wye-zee-semicolon we know where to look it up.
But other members of my club are not internet-nerds, they know about (for example) building insulation or local politics. And for them it looks like an error, so they might lose time contacting me to ask what is going on, or “correct” it themselves.
What I would like to see is that the page title is a block just like the rest of the page; it would be type H1, and include the option to “Edit as HTML” or “Edit as Visual”.
This would also allow markup like underline or color to be added to the page title, which seems a good idea to me.

In reply to: [Neve] Automatically set keyboard focus to Search boxThanks for your suggestion Vytis; unfortunately it doesn’t work for me, either on Windows or Android. I use “Open behavior” “Minimal” but other options (“canvas” and “float above header”) were no better.
[The items in “quotes” are my translations of the Dutch, may not be correct]
Back to the drawing-board, but thanks anyway.
