In reply to: Dashboard appears in plain textIt’s fixed! I enabled script debugging as suggested on this support page I came across:
http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Using_Your_Browser_to_Diagnose_JavaScript_Errors
However, if I remove the line as suggested the dashboard reverts to the plain text/basic links format so I’ll need to keep the line in my wp-config.php file (which I suppose means it isn’t properly fixed but it’ll do for the time being!)
Thanks and regards, Julian

In reply to: Dashboard appears in plain textThanks Matthew – I did the reinstall by following the instructions but unfortunately it didn’t work. I also tried turning off all the plug-ins by renaming the directory. The site itself is showing fine but updating is very unfriendly using the plain text interface (though it can be done). I’ve discovered that clicking on each of the menu links, ie Posts-Add New, brings up a very basic section at the lower end which can be edited after a fashion. If you would like to have a look at what I’m getting I could PM the login details to you. Many thanks for all your assistance. Cheers, Julian

In reply to: Dashboard appears in plain textThanks Matthew, I think it’s going to have to be a manual reinstall – I’ll summon up the courage to do it tomorrow and let you know how I get on! Cheers, Julian

In reply to: Dashboard appears in plain textHello Matthew – many thanks for your reply. I deactivated all the plug-ins (I was able to do this because everything is shown on one page in the browser with basic hyperlinks) but it didn’t work. I also tried switching to the default theme and the same result. The really bad news is that Firefox is now affected by the issue so I’m not able to update the web site at all! Cheers, Julian

In reply to: [Better RSS Widget] Make headlines boldThanks for the advice GrandSlambert! I haven’t come across JetPack before but will certainly check it out as I have other modifications to the CSS which might be vulnerable in the event of a theme update as you say. Cheers, Julian

In reply to: [Better RSS Widget] Make headlines boldMany thanks GrandSlambert,
I placed the code you suggested above into the theme’s CSS and it worked a treat! You can see it here:

(job vacancies in the right-hand column).
Excellent plug-in – and first class support!

In reply to: Problem updating to WordPress 3.4Thanks Richard – I’ll check again with the hosting company (if only so they can confirm the version doesn’t comply with the WP requirements!) and also consider a manual update, which I think is frought with dangers, especially for a non-tech person like me! (When you say via FTP am I right in thinking that means downloading the version and then re-installing over the old one?) Cheers, Julian
