Oddly, everything seems to have started normally now that I have enabled debugging, and continues to work after disabling debugging. I hate problems that mysteriously solve themselves!
The “Edit” button was totally non-responsive when editing posts, no clue on pages as I can no longer reproduce the problem.
One more data point: The post edit controls also did not exist.
I don’t know the internals of how wordpress works, but thinking on this problem now I would guess there is a client-side problem or in a communication error. Perhaps my current low quality internet connection was creating problems? But that doesn’t explain why it was so clearly related to WPSSO being enabled!
If this happens again I will collect more information and post the details.
Here is the only error, but it doesn’t come up with the edit post page:
wp-content/debug.log:[21-Mar-2017 14:05:07 UTC] PHP Notice: get_currentuserinfo is deprecated since version 4.5.0! Use wp_get_current_user() instead. in /home/othalan/seduc.in/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3829
Two additional problems:
* Filenames and Directories were changed to all lower case.
* The thumbnail directory was not created which meant that no thumbnails were created.

This only occurs on the homepage for the site. All other pages are rendered correctly when not logged in.
