In reply to: [Stop Spammers Classic] Google ReCaptcha on Registration?Shame that, but thanks for answering Keith. I would not mind having a “slightly more paranoid” registration mode, since they’re still getting through. Or a “Really paranoid” mode that always requires it during periods of attacks? What about a “Tell everyone about the IP” button on the WP Subscriber screen? Or in Bulk Actions, something like “Whine” 😉 I’m just spending way too much time dealing with fake subscribers.
But more seriously, an “expire unacknowledged registrations” would be very helpful although much harder to verify.
Cheers,

In reply to: [Stop Spammers Classic] massive increase in IPs passingSignificant reduction! Thank you. We had another 2 top level attacks in the interim 3 hours, but most were nicely fended off.

In reply to: [Stop Spammers Classic] massive increase in IPs passingWe do see the originating IP addresses – no CloudFlare. There are three Class A’s coming from one region that are presenting a problem. What we do see is that the SFS and HoneyPot addresses are correctly blocked, and individual black list entries are blocked successfully, but blocking something like 111.* (fake example) is not working. I have contacted our ISP in the mean time, but the attacks are getting worse and the situation is more urgent.

In reply to: [Stop Spammers Classic] massive increase in IPs passingUnfortunately, I cannot modify our production site so easily (policy). It requires scheduling. However, from all indications, the rather long blacklist is currently being partially ignored. We have had more attacks get through since the upgrade than in the past two years combined.

In reply to: [Stop Spammers Classic] massive increase in IPs passingI have noticed a massive increase also, since downloading 5.9.3. We have previously blocked a number of Class B and C IPs, using the form nn.mm.*, as in a previous support issue here. These appear not to be working any longer. Addresses from nn.mm.kk.ll are passing.

In reply to: [Stop Spammers Classic] Spammers now whitelisted.I’m seeing a similar effect. Spam registrations are coming through by the hundreds now, since the most recent update, sadly. Can you make this a setting instead of rolling back to 5.8?
Also, we’re seeing registrations get through if there is a DOS on the SFS website (no jdbc connections). I’d like to see registrations prevented (possibly selected by an option), if that happens, rather than allowing the registration to go through.
Thanks Stefano. Looking forward to it.

In reply to: [Stop Spammers Classic] Great until it locks you out of your own siteWe’re running about 98% caught fake registrations, but the bots seem to be adapting. Nice job nonetheless.

In reply to: [Stop Spammers Classic] Great until it locks you out of your own siteIf you seem to be a spammer, either by behavior or from being reported to one of the spammer sites, then you should avoid this plugin.
Keith: Respectfully, how would we know if we, as a siteadmin, would fall into this category? I don’t want to be locked out of my own website.
