In the process of deactivating plugins, I shut down nearly the entire site without finding the problem. When it came time to do away with BuddyPress, bbPress, and a plugin called BuddyPress Docs, I shut all three of them down at the same time. At that point the customization editor came back online and worked properly. I can’t say which one of those three was the problem, however, because in reactivating them (one at a time–BuddyPress, then bbPress, then BuddyPress Docs) I could not duplicate the problem. With all three currently running, the editor is still behaving properly.

bbPress has seemed to be giving me other issues, so I’d want to blame that simply because it’s been a PITA. But that doesn’t seem to make sense. And I had been using the customizer before with both BuddyPress and bbPress installed and active. I had installed the Docs plugin but I can’t recall if I’d done any customization since then or not. Not sure if that’s helpful in letting you know where to look for the clash, but that’s the rundown of activity.

In any case, it seems to be back to working properly now. Thank you for your response.

I’ll do that, and try clearing all my caches. If you’re seeing Arial, it’s working–just not on my end. Thanks again for your rapid response. I’ve got three of your plugins installed. I appreciate the work you do.

    All the best.

Thank you for the quick reply. If you are seeing it working–not loading the default bbpress style–then perhaps it is a caching problem on my end or something. I changed all the fonts in the “forum index styling” settings (to Arial, a sans serif font), and none of them are showing up for me. I purged the cloudfare cache, which should have forced them to reload with the new settings. Maybe it’s a local caching problem. The only thing that doesn’t make sense about that is that I loaded the page in an entirely different browser, and it still shows with the default bbpress stying (though it seems smaller in Microsoft Edge than in Firefox, where it’s pretty small).

I honestly am not sure what it might be.

As I say, I changed to Arial (sans serif) but for me it’s still displaying a serif font. I also changed the “empty forum” message, but it still displays the default.
    Are you seeing Arial?

Thanks again for your response, and for looking into this. It’s a mystery to me.
