Best you create a blank page and choose that as your static front page. Otherwise the page you chose won’t be accessible anymore and always show the theme’s frontpage.

My guess is that this was some browser caching issue.

In fact most of the picture are shown now.
But I am afraid the company logo is not:
It’s not a big thing since everything works, it’s just not shown in the settings.

I now realised that you have to choose a page as well. Doesn’t seem to matter as it will be replaced by the theme’s frontpage.

Ok, I got an answer from my hoster Strato.
They have got a feature called “ServerSide Security”. In its description it says that it protects you from email and guestbook spam. Once deactivated wordpress.com could access my site just fine.

Anyway, the problem was that my web hosting provider had changed the folder my wordpress was located in…
I changed the log folder in BackWPup settings and everything was working again.
