Eureka!! I made that change and suddenly everything works perfectly.
Sorry for the tone of my earlier response – I’d tried every option I could think of and nothing worked, so I was getting really frustrated with it.

Thanks for replying. The problem I had was that, although it’s called a transparent header, the default settings are that it is opaque. I posted this because I found that more than a little counterintuitive and it seems other people have done too as I found another post asking the same question that I linked to.
I’ve marked it as resolved now.
