No matter what remedy I try, I cannot get the full posts to display on a separate page somewhere. They are all truncated, with a Continue Reading button, even though I have specified that the full text show up in four different places:
1) on the Settings/Reading screen
2) on the Appearance/Tempera settings/Post excerpts screen
3) on the Appearance/Tempera Settings/show posts on Presentation screen,/”Enable.”
4) on the Menu screen, where I have a page named “Blog”. When I choose “Show posts on a static page called Blog, instead of on the Presentation page, I still get truncated posts and the Continuation button gets you to a blank page called Author Peter Green without any post at all on it. see for yourself at http://www.peterhgreen.com., I use Windows 8.1 on a 64-bit machine.Disabling all plug-ins has no different effect, and activating Twenty Fifteen, the default them produces the same result. I did not have this problem in WordPress 4.1.0, but I have it in 4.1.1 with tow different themes. I will report it as a possible bug to WordPress.
I looked at the Pecora site, but I can’t really deal at this level–I don’t have enough familiarity with or training in WordPress or programming. However, it will be much easier simply to re-post my saved blog texts, which I have started to do–if I can ever get the full blogs to display on a separate page somewhere. Thanks, Mr. Slade for all your interest and help. Peter.
Hey, W.,
Many thanks for your response and your interest. I’ll try working with this information tomorrow!~
Best, PeterThe second issue persists: My “Continue Reading” buttons on the Presentation Page do not take you to the full posts, but return a blank page which says “Not found.” Now I have been able to set up a blog page, but it does not contain full posts, either, which is what I wold like. This worked in Version 2.1.1 of Tempera, and has not worked since. I cannot find a button for reinstalling Tempera, and judging from the experience reported on the forums by some, I’m afraid to try to delete the theme and reinstall it, and I can’t find a button to let me do this anyway.
I love the Tempera theme. You can see my progress so far at http://www.peterhgreen.com. Everything else is working beautifully, and I am tantalizingly close to getting it all solved. But I’ve got to be able to display my posts. I’m sure there’s a simple fix in the code, but I need to know EXACTLY what page to go to and where to place the fix, since I’m not a programmer. Someone else made the comment that it seems like a bug in the newest versions of the theme (1.2.2 through 1.2.7), and I agree.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.Mr. Slade,
Sadly, Yahoo was no help at all. The fool who “helped” me, despite my instructions to back it up, erased the subfolder where my entire Website’s WordPress database and all settings were stored. They do take snapshots of the condition of the site regularly, but I found that restoring the site requires using folder which was erased.
My database was backed up in what BlueHost calls raw data format, and not in the SQL format that they require, and since the site is damaged, they can’t do anything, evn if paid, to transfer it over. I have stored the backup files in a new folder on the BlueHost website and the files look like this:
falbum.frm, -MYD and -MYI
wp_bas_pages.frm,-MYD and -MYI
wp_comments.frm,-MYD and -MYI
wp_options.frm, -MYD and -MYI
wp_psots.frm,-MYD and -MYIIf you have any clues about how to direct the config file to use these files or put them into an SQL database so tehy can be resotred, I’d sure be happy to know. Best Peter
Many thanks for your interest.
I’m happy to report that I’ve started over with BlueHoSt adn have almost re-established everything except my blog history. I wish I had full instructions on pointing a page to the previous database, which I preserved from the old installation. It’s not in SQL form, however, but is a raw dataabasee. Any help would be appreciated.
Okay, I have solved the first issue: under Tempera Settings. on the Presentation Page screen, teh cryout columns have to be set to “Widget Columns” in the drop-down menu.
I still don’t know how to get the Continue Reading to work on the continue atinof the post or to begin creating posts to a page called Blog.
Any suggestions would still be most welcome.Good idea. Many thanks, Peter.
Right, Mr. Slade,
With my Yahoo host, it’s easy to reinstall WordPress. I have done about three installations over seven years, and since I was afraid to delete anything, I have several sets of files. I think I may be on my own with this one, since I’ll have to do some sleuthing and experimentation to see how to get the right files into the new WordPress installation, which works, by the way, but it still shows a generic homepage. I can always reload the one theme I use, which is Tempera.
1) Before that, I did rename the plugins directory, but it was the wrong one, and it may be okay, since Yahoo forces you to install subsequent installations into a sub directory, and apparently my correct plug-ins directory still exists in peterhgreen.com > blog > wp-content > plugins. The new istallaton is in peterhgreen.com > wordpress > wp-content > plugins. If I can figure out how to move the right content files into this new sub directory, I suppose it will work.
2) Yes, I did redirect the normal WordPress login to word press.com/blog where the previous installation seems somehow to reside.I guess where I could use some guidance would be: a) where to restore the recent database backup, since this will get me pretty close to the latest state of development, and
b) how to reset the wp admin panel, so I can do this stuff form inside WordPress, rather than the risky business of working in my host’s File Manager. Thanks, again, for your interest in and patience with my inadequate knowledge of this topic. The need to learn all this new stuff once I had retired and thought I know how to do many things has been a continuing shock to my system! 🙂
PeterHi Mr. Slade,
Many thanks for your help. I found another problem in the c_WPconfig.php file–a username and password I didn’t put there. I changed them back to my new one, made it agree with the entries on the WordPress wpconfig.php file and saved them. I still can’t log in and get the message: “One or more database tables are unavailable.” But the repair does not allow me to log in automatically, nor does a manual repair seem to fix anything. I guess the next thing is to manually reinstall WordPress. I could do it in the root directory, to correct a legacy problem–all my other files are in the original ../blog directory–and this might preserve the content file to be moved later. This needs to be corrected anyway. What do you think?Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Can't post comments-Twenty eleven themeThanks, everyone for your advice. Reloading the theme and disabling any plug-in that filters comments has restored the comment function. Peter

In reply to: Can't post comments-Twenty eleven themeThanks, Esmi. The reload seems to have fixed whatever was wrong with Twenty Eleven. My customizations were from menu options, and they were present upon re-activation of the theme. Believe me, I wouldn’t know how to tamper with the HTML and wouldn’t attempt it! Peter

In reply to: Can't post comments-Twenty eleven themeEsmi, I have tried what you suggested, and, yes, I can get to a comment box. Is there any way for me to keep the Twenty Eleven theme? I have invested a lot of time in customizing it and would hate to lose it. I really need SEO and the WordPress Anti-spam plug-in. Thanks for your help. Peter

In reply to: Can't post comments-Twenty eleven themeThemediva, Can you tell me what PhP files I need to change to redirect my comments correctly? Thanks. Peter.

In reply to: Can't post comments-Twenty eleven themeBy the way, the reason the site got redirected when I tried to change it was that I improperly identified my URL as a WordPress.com site, rather than a ww.wp.xz.cn site, which it is.
