Update plugins error "Could not remove old plugin"
-
I am having great difficulty updating my plugins and even my theme. All I get is an error message “Could not remove old plugin or theme” errors when I try?? I am currently using Attitude Pro from Theme Horse.
Please help!

Okay, try one more thing – switching the theme to a default theme (Twenty Fifteen) – just in case the theme is doing this.
IF not, here’s the other thread – see the last few posts:

Also wanted to add that all the files within the plugin folders are set to 0555?
You can try making those 755.
Now the wordpress dashboard is not responding, says down for maintenance back shortly, which seems to happen a lot while I’m trying these things.
A maintenance message is probably better than some options. Mike were you able to switch themes?
No, it won’t let me switch themes either? I’m in the middle of changing all folders to 755 and files to 644 most files were all set to 555? Mike
Carry on…if there was an extra theme installed we can change to it without logging in.
Could the theme be doing this? I’m using Altitude Pro from Theme Horse for which there is an update that I haven’t been able to install. They want me to delete the old one and install the new one.
Sure, themes are as powerful as a plugin. They can cause conflicts just like a plugin.
But let’s not try replacing the theme. If there is an extra theme we can try activating it. But with you using the File Manager a delete and reinstall will be a big deal without FTP.
Should I just delete the theme and download the new one?
Why are all the picture file 0555 and not 0644?
So, all the the permissions are correct now and you can’t get into WordPress?
I think the images will be ok but we can worry about
that if we have too.Ok, all of the folders say 0755 and all the files say 0644 Whew! How could all that get changed without some mass operation taking place somehow?
As for how, using command line it’s one chmod command to change the whole site. The why is a little harder to say other than stuff happens. What is the site doing? Can you log in?
Yes I can log in and the site seems to be functioning fine but the items that use the plugins missing are obviously not working…i.e. my contact page is missing the form and my Google Map is gone!
