  • Forum: Installing WordPress
    In reply to: Login issues

    Hello, @biskupator, & welcome.

I’m not certain, but it appears you may be confusing several different things here.

    1) In the email I’m replying to, you’re requesting support from the ww.wp.xz.cn support forums. If you have the free version of Wordfence, then it, too, has a forum on this site where you can ask for assistance, & the credentials are the same as those you used to make this request.

    2) Your hosting provider should’ve emailed you login credentials for your control panel, ie, for creating email, databases, & FTP accounts.

    3) Your WordPress credentials, ie, those you use to log into your website.tld/wp-admin address are ones you chose. Those of us participating in the WordPress community would have no access to them.

You asked: “Can my website credentials and ww.wp.xz.cn ones be different? I assumed they are the same.”

They can, & indeed should, be different.

Because you haven’t posted your domain, it’s very difficult for anyone to really help much, as we can’t look up who you’re hosting with, etc, unless you do so. Unfortunately, as a hosting provider myself, I can tell you that the way things are organized in this biz is not at all standardized, so the way I might do it may be very different from the way another equally competent provider would.

Please let us know if you have additional questions.

@herchi, I suspect the problematic plugin here is “SQ AJAX Login, Register, Lost Pass & Facebook Login”. Please try deactivating it & see if the problem resolves.

You’re doing excellent, & I’m more than glad to be of service if I can, but I did want you to know that there is a Spanish language version of these forums at:

    Support Forums

if it’s of interest, particularly for future reference. Some folks really like the feature, other folks say there are fewer people around on that forum & they get more help on the English language one because of that. But I almost always let folks know it exists just in case they’d feel more comfortable using their native tongue.

As I said, I’m more than willing to help you, but my Spanish is abysmal, so it’ll have to be in English. I understand far more Spanish than I speak. Certainly your English is better than my Spanish.

    Hello, herchi, & welcome.

Have you checked your ‘settings > General’ option to see if WordPress is indeed configured to allow registrations?

If yes, then please tell us what plugins you’re running that may be conflicting w/that.

    @kaivarros, when I type:
    https://taniarojasv.com/wp-login.php
I’m pretty sure I know enough Spanish (or perhaps Portuguese)? to understand I’ve reached a login prompt.

did you used a plugin called Site Ground Migrator to move your site?

Did you put anything in your wp-config.php file regarding this plugin?

If not, then the other possibility is that it added tables to your database which should be deleted. Generally speaking, most hosting providers give folks a way to access their database via a graphical interface, such as PHPMyAdmin. That way, you can browse the database to see if such an entry exists & delete the offending entries &/or tables if so.

1 forum post I read said to check your media settings, &, if there’s a path there, to delete it. Also, you might try reinstalling the plugin to see if that fixes it.

    Hello, kaivarros, & welcome.

Try disabling a plugin called Site Ground Migration & see if that helps you.

    Please let us know.

Well, they did reply, & S3 integration is somewhere on their “possibly-to-do” list. So I’m not sure where that leaves me except maybe importing these galleries into something that does integrate w/S3. This is 2020. I can’t believe they haven’t done this yet, but what do I know?

Hello, George. Yes, of course, & as I posted in my message: “I have written them for suggestions, but I thought I’d throw it out here also.” It got your attention. Evidently not theirs yet. :(. This is very much of a time-sensitive project, &, sadly, I really need help ASAP, which is why I posted twice about this–once in their support forum & once here.

Basically this client has so many galleries on the server that if I don’t clear them off & get this working by 1 October, all my clients will lose the ability to add files/databases to their sites, & I can’t have that.

    Appreciate your time. Thank you.

Hello, nutzaboutstamping. When you go to your Godaddy control panel, 1 of the things you should see there is file manager’. Open it up, then click on public_html. If there are files related to your website, they should be there. 1 of the files is .htaccess. It is a hidden file, though, so make sure that your file manager is set up to display these.

Nutzaboutstamping, when I went to the page, I received the following:
    “nutzaboutstampingpages.wordpress.com doesn’t exist.”

Your domain registrar is indeed godaddy, but your host appears to be (or have been) wordpress.com, & this is why I told you to contact them.

May we see your .htaccess file?

Hello nutzaboutstamping, & welcome. Unfortunately, this is not the forum that can help. This forum is for those who self host their WordPress sites. Yours, however, is hosted on wordpress.com, which is who you need to talk to to get this sorted. Please go there, contact 1 of their happiness engineers, & I’m sure they’ll get it figured out for you.

    Best of luck & success.

Well, billymann23, truthfully, you’ve got a *shipload* of images loading there, some of which seem to be pretty large. You might do well to install Jetpack on your site & use their cdn to help those images load faster. They also have a nice gallery that you might perhaps like. & their cdn does some image optimization. From another perspective, though, since you’re obviously primarily local to the UK, perhaps a cdn wouldn’t be all that worthwhile for you. I guess you could try it & see if it helps.

NextGen gallery is another plugin that has *tons* of installations & is considered by some almost to be the gold standard when it comes to gallery plugins. I myself am not sure I’d go quite that far, but a lot of folks seem to like it.

You might also wish to check your hosting metrics, ie, your CPU load, memory use, number of files, etc, to make sure you’re not hitting your hosting provider’s limits, as doing so can throttle a site pretty severely.

Anyway, glad we sort of got you back on track. Let us know if you need more help.

    Hello, billymann23, & welcome.

Firstly, I notice your Google Analytics plugin isn’t loading correctly, though I have to say I doubt that’s the entire problem.

1 thing we tend to do in this situation is to ask folks to switch to a default theme & deactivate plugins–temporarily, of course–to see if the problem persists.

If not, then try reactivating the theme first. If that still doesn’t break things, then try reactivating plugins 1 by 1, clearing your browser cache & trying the website after each activation, until you find the plugin that broke stuff.

The plugins folder can be deactivated by appending characters to the end of the foldername, ie, plugins1.

Because the login screen for your dashboard comes up far quicker than does your homepage, I seriously suspect that the problem lies in either the theme, a plugin(s), or both.

Thanks so much for your reply. I haven’t yet, corrinarusso. There is also a cost factor, which I’m trying to keep low for him. It is an option I’m considering, especially as regards Digitalocean spaces. But I’m reading mixed reviews on their open-source plugin, thus I’m a bit hesitant to proceed. He can do stuff in his control panel, but let’s just say his real area of expertise is not technology, & we’ll leave it at that. So I’m trying to find the simplest, least technical, lowest cost option out there.

meilershsag, please log into your site, then go to ‘Plugins’ > Add new’ & search for a plugin called “Health check”. You want the 1 by ww.wp.xz.cn. Installing this will allow us to essentially deactivate the plugins & themes, but only for you, since this seems to be something I sense you’re really fearful about.

Once installed & activated, please select the troubleshooting tab. Acknowledge that you understand how troubleshooting mode works, & activate it.

You’ll need 2 browsers, essentially, the 1 you used to log in, & another which you’ll close out after each attempt. You may also want to clear that browser’s cache after each attempt as well.

Your first step will be to try to log in using that 2nd browser once the plugin is installed.

Let me emphasize this is temporary, ie, it can be uninstalled when you’re done, though having thus said, you might actually decide you want to keep it.

I do suspect that there are plugin conflicts on this site–likely more than 1. 22 plugins is an awful lot, though having thus said, I’ve administered sites w/more, though I don’t ever recommend it. I also don’t know how much support your LMS vendor provides, but since that’s where I think the problems are arising from, you may wish to consider contacting them if your support window hasn’t expired.

Hey, meilershsag, I’m glad you got it working. Just remember that when updating the theme & plugins, any changes you made will likely be overwritten.

Don’t hesitate, though, to let us know if you need help again.
