Online Backup

Hi FastTS,
Do you know what part it is backing up?
Hi tcollins123,
That file is the backup file the plugin generates. When it is completed it will be moved into wp-content/backup/ if it is a local backup. So it’s not a hack at all. We use PHP extension while generating it to prevent access to it since it’s not complete or usable while it’s still generating, and also as a further method of preventing illegitimate downloading of it.
So it’s a false positive of their scanner.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] PHPSnapshot Reported bugThanks Vasyl,
The code this was in was redundant and overridden by the following line thus why it never has been an issue. I’ve fixed for next version any how.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] unsupported compression method errorHi,
When you say each time different. Does the size you have when downloaded appear differently each time? Or is it the same size downloaded each time, just different to the plugin reported size?
Are you generating a new backup each time you download and compare?

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Manual BU ands scheduled bu's failHi 4kate,
We are seeing this on occassion on some hosts but we’re unable to figure out the issue.
Can you check what the last message or two you see in the progress is before it fails (and before any “Timeout” messages)? Also if you can give event log that will help say where abouts the issue is.
We’re working on a diagnostic version at moment to get some logs for this problem.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] manual backup failedThanks
Hi FastTS, I think you missed my request for information:
Can you run it again and see if you catch the message it is showing on the progress bar IMMEDIATELY before it changes to “Timed out…” or “Backup failed…” – this will hint at what it was doing before it failed. Also the last event log entry before the failure message in the event log will help. I can concentrate diagnostic logging around that part of the process.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Manual backup failedHi Raul,
Does it happen all the time?
What is the last message you see before it shows “Timed out” or “Unknown problem” message? Was it processing a certain file?
Jason
Hi FastTS,
So the plugin worked OK for you in version 3.0.1? I’ve tested with WordPress 3.6 and everything works OK in my lab so it shouldn’t be that.
I’ll await the information requested in my last post.
Thanks,
Jason.
Thanks, we received it. Can’t see any 500 either. Hmm.
I will get a diagnostics version ready that creates a log file of what it is doing, maybe it will show us something.

You say it worked in previous versions, can you remember which you had previously? I can check for code changes since then.
Thanks,
Jason
Hi FastTS,
Probably best to email it to support “at” backup-technology.co.uk in compressed format. All we are looking for is the “Status Code”. When you run a manual backup it does a request and when you get “Unknown problem” it means that request aborted or crashed. If we can see “500” status codes that confirms that. If not we know it’s something else.
Unfortunately if it is 500 status codes it becomes extremely difficult to know what’s happening since that kind of problem gets logged at the host side, if it gets logged. You’d need to contact host and see if they can tell you why it is getting 500 status codes.
Jason.
Hi FastTS,
The errors logs and access logs are host side things, nothing to do with WordPress. I can’t give any information on them since it differs greatly from one host to another.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Error in local bkp !Hi,
Is it happening on every backup? Are you sure you have space available on your hosting package? (We need space to create the backup before it gets sent/downloaded.)
Could you try this version if you do have space?
https://wordpress.backup-technology.com/wponlinebackup-684.zipYou will need to uninstall and upload this one. You will lose all settings unfortunately but shouldn’t take too long to set it back up. Local backups will be kept so no worry on those. See if this fixes your issue – we implemented retries on some writes.
Thanks,
Jason

Let us know if you do have any further issue and it’s not the host.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] unsupported compression method errorHi abhishek813,
Can you run a fresh backup, make sure it completes without error, download it, and then compare the size of the downloaded file to the file size reported in the plugin?
Just to make sure it downloaded fully.
Beyond that I will need to see the ZIP file to find out the problem so if it’s 20MB or less and you are willing to email to us or upload to an FTP we can take a look.
Jason.
