i will try to get it working but it must be a smtp permission on the exchange on prem ? i dont have hand on it so i can’t verify but not sure the setting is there on the onprem maybe it’s only for exchange online 🙁

if i use SMTP Authentication set to none it work so it must be something related to user so i will try to check other option i may have

hello i try with easy wp smtp
i get this:
CLIENT -> SERVER: EHLO localhost
SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.CLIENT -> SERVER: QUIT
SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.i try a different user same error
continue test and find a solution

i went to the server where the web site is and did a Telnet of the mail server followed by the port 25 and i see this :
220 mail.server.co Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service ready at Mon, 6 Feb 2023 13:55:17 -0500
so i assume it should work but maybe the user i use is not authorized
