Hey back again with an update. I disabled IA around the time of this post and my site performance returned to normal. About a month ago I reenabled the plugin (as I like the stats, etc.) in the hope that the updates since I’d disable it would have fixed the issue. Intially it seemed fine however today my website was taking forever to load or terminating in a “500 Internal Server Error”, especially in the backend. I reached out to my hosting provider at Clook for help who said:
“I can see some resource issues on the account which I am currently investigating. I have found a database table which is nearly 900MB in size;cJAeps_independent_analytics_sessions
This would definitely cause slowness on the backend if that table is being looked up each request.”
Again the issue seems to definitely be caused by IA. Just leaving this here in case anyone is suffering the same issue. I’ll be exporting my data looking for an alternative stats plugin.
Hi, I tried reactivating yestday (slower traffic day for us) and the issue returned, it was particularly slow in the WordPress admin area but the frontend of the site was lagging too.
We’ve been on Cloudflare for several years now and with the help of my hosting company added some rules to block the worst territories for bot traffic, which worked for a bit but it seems no longer. No, I’ve been running Independent Analytics for 1-2 years, it was the latest update that I ran last night so obviously wouldn’t want to zero out all our historic data, although at the moment the IA plugin is disabled and the site is running as normal, which is confusing to me if the slow down is due to a large wave of bots surely the site should still be slower even with the IA plugin disabled?

We have no where near that amount of visitors (I wish!). Prior to today’s issue we’ve been seeing large spikes of Author archive page visits (100-200K per day) with 100% bounce rates which I investigated with our host and we put down to weird bot activity.

In reply to: [Enhanced Responsive Images] Loading Incorrect Small Image Sizessorry no I don’t as once I identified the plugin as the source I deactivated it as it was causing that issue across the site but not on every post ( we have in the region of 5000+) or in any way I could consistently predict.
In case it’s of any use, when first noticing the issue I found that deleting the affected image block and re-adding the image again in a new image block had it appear correctly, but just ‘replacing’ the image within the block didn’t.

I’ve been doing an audit of our website and it appears that the broken images in Jetpack galleries issue is now present on a large number of the site’s posts both in the archive and for new draft posts that we’ve been preparing to publish – example here https://directorsnotes.com/2022/10/24/victoria-singh-thompson-dont-forget-to-go-home/

With regards to the broken gallery images, reuploading the affected images with a different file name and rebuilding the gallery sometimes fixes the issue, but on several occasions I’ve had to reupload the affected images multiple times to get them to appear and as we have such a large archive on the site and I have no way of knowing which posts are affected or not, this isn’t a feasible solution.
I followed your Cloudflare instructions at the time of my original post but that hasn’t solved the issue.
