I am testing the new plugin. It looks good so far.

Okay, I spoke too soon. Again, this morning, a digest failed to go out. I will try changing the settings again.

I meant to follow up here. Sorry. Reverting to per-post mode and then back to daily digest mode resolved my problem.

    Will try. Thanks.

Running the latest version of Subscribe2, my daily digests also stopped going out around the middle of January. I have had to use the Resend Digest button every time.

I am NOT using GoDaddy hosting. In fact, this is running on the same hosting accounts everywhere that I have used for years.

Mail logger shows no messages were generated on each of several days when they should have been, except when I used Resend Digest.

I think something broke in the plugin system because this is happening on multiple sites, multiple hosting services, and all of them are using the latest version of WordPress and the plugin.

It would be very, very awkward and inconvenient to disable all the other plugins on the several sites and wait for the next round of digests to go out. Any suggestions for alternative ways to diagnose the problem?

I can get to the visual editor with the latest version of Ad Injection. What other plugins are you using? I’ll be glad to see if I can replicate your problem.

Okay, if I read the code you’re pointing me to correctly, you ARE trying to override the headers with a valid Return-Path.

That still points to a problem with WordPress (not the hosting provider). I will try to determine if there is a breakdown in the communication between the plugin and WordPress.

You may mark this thread as resolved. Thanks for taking the time to dig into it with me.

THIS COMMENT HAS BEEN EDITED AND SUBSTANTIALLY REVISED.

“So, your issue is really that your hosting provider is resetting that header.”

    No, they are not.

Core WordPress is grabbing the machine name and injecting that into the headers.

This is something that SHOULD be fixed in Core WordPress. However, convincing everyone to see the problem, to acknowledge that it is a problem, and getting an appropriate solution worked out will take forever.

The plugin, on the other hand, can take advantage of EXISTING Core behavior and overwrite the Return-Path header.

That’s not ideal for all WordPress users because other plugins will be relying on Core code to set the headers, too. In the long run the problem should be addressed in Core. But in the short run I need the problem fixed in THIS plugin; otherwise I will have to replace it with something else that can do the job.

That’s really not a suitable solution for several reasons. First, I am not a PHP developer; although I can learn to write my own plugins and have in fact created a few child themes over the years, this is a universal problem. It’s not just MY problem, and even if I were to upload a plugin not everyone who uses Subscribe2 would known to download it.

Second, I suspect that most people who use the plugin don’t even monitor their bounce messages; they may have only limited access to their system administration. They won’t know if they need to change this behavior (although my guess is that as email spam becomes worse more ISPs will be checking more headers in an attempt to block suspicious email). It would be better if the plugin marries itself to the idea of ensuring proper headers are sent out.

Third, if there is no hope getting this plugin fixed then I need to find another plugin, not try to fix it myself. I administrate over 100 WordPress installations. I don’t have time to take on support for a plugin or hook. If I did I would have contributed something to the libraries already.

I appreciate your suggestion, which eliminates waiting on my part, but it’s better to press for an achievable solution that helps all plugin users than to try to make a band-aid that only fixes my problem.

If you’re suggesting that I modify a hook file on each Website, that might work unless the hooks are overwritten each time the plugin is updated; in which case, it’s not a desirable solution.

Any change I make must be persistent across updates. That is why I am requesting a dashboard option.

Ad Injection does not format the emails that your blog sends out. Depending on how you send emails, you may have a template file for the messages that you can modify.

Be sure that whatever advertising network you use allows you to embed their ads in email. You don’t want to be thrown out of their program.

SEMalt uses more than one domain. You’ve only touched the tip of the iceberg.

If you don’t have any immediate plans to update the plugin then people should just add their own list of domains to it until you can get an update into the field.

You can try to load the PHP code directly into your template (you have to modify the theme, so you should make a child theme for the modification.

Look for “Template Ad Examples” at the bottom of the Ad Injection SETTINGS page.

Although the original poster may have given up on this idea, I wanted to reply for anyone else who has the same question.

The Ad Injection plugin does not place code above the “entry-content” DIV.

It is not advisable that you embed banners at the top of your pages anyway, as they may trigger review by search engine algorithms or Web spam teams.

ON EDIT: That said, you can try modifying a child theme and using the “Template Ad Examples” at the bottom of the Ad Injection SETTINGS page.

Although the original poster may already have found this solution, I wanted to share it here for anyone else who has the same question.

Find the PAGE or POST ID for the URL where you do not want the ads to be shown (this affects all ads from Ad Injection on that page).

In SETTINGS for Ad Injection, under FILTERS, find GLOBAL FILTERS. In the last box (the fourth one) insert a comma-seperated list of PAGE/POST IDs.

You will see this text under the box you want enter that list into:

Comma separated list of post or page ids. e.g: 7, 38, 243
