    This is still an issue in the latest version of the plugin (5.2).

    I’ve figured out a workaround for Ubuntu, by adding images directly to NextGEN Gallery via FTP. NextGEN Gallery can create the thumbnails, but it’s the flash uploader that doesn’t work.

    So if you’re having problem adding images to your Gallery while using Linux (as stated in my previous post, it works fine for me in Windows), here’s my workaround: –

    1. Create a new gallery (Gallery -> Add Gallery/Images).
    2. Using an FTP program (such as FileZilla), navigate to the gallery folder that you just created, and upload your images.
    3. Select all uploaded files, and set the permissions to 666 (this is needed to add names/descriptions via NextGEN Gallery).
    4. In NextGEN Gallery, scan your newly created gallery for the images you’ve just uploaded (Gallery -> Manage Gallery -> Select the gallery from the list -> Click “Scan folder for new images”).
    5. Create thumbnails for your freshly uploaded files (Tick each of the images you uploaded -> Choose “Create new thumbnails” from the drop down menu -> Click “Apply”).

    You’ll now be able to modify the titles and descriptions of all images in your gallery, as well as embed them into posts/pages in the usual manner.
