Hey Mitt,
Based on where it stops, it looks like the export queue is being created successfully, but the background process that should continue the export is not running afterward. In most cases, this is related to WP-Cron not executing properly on the server. A few common things to check are whether wp-cron.php is accessible, whether WP-Cron has been disabled in wp-config.php (DISABLE_WP_CRON), or whether a security/cache plugin or hosting firewall is blocking background requests. You may also want to try temporarily disabling caching/security plugins and testing again. If you install a plugin like WP Crontrol, I would check whether scheduled tasks are piling up or showing as overdue, that’s usually a sign that WP-Cron is not running correctly.Hi @johnwuser1245, it’s possible you’re looking at a caching issue or a compatibility issue. I would recommend unit testing inside your environment to narrow it down. If you’re not comfortable with adding the filter, I’d suggest going through some of the tutorials or documentation available for WordPress.

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] The plugin doesn’t launchHey there, it’s possible a compatibility issue exists in your environment. As a first step, I would recommend starting by unit testing everything in your environment to help determine what may be causing the issue. To do this, start by disabling all plugins except Simply Static, changing your theme to a default WordPress theme, and then running a new full (or single) export to see if Simply Static is able to generate the site correctly. Then, one by one, activate each needed plugin and/or theme, running a new export (full or single) after each activation.

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] “Path too long” when unzippingHey there, what you’re facing is typically a Windows filesystem limitation when extracting ZIP archives that contain very long nested folder paths. Many tools (including File Explorer’s unzipper) fail when handling very deep directory structures. One option you can consider to get around this is using a third-party extractor tool like 7-Zip or WinRAR, which should handle long paths better than File Explorer.
If you’re using the Enhanced Crawl feature, Simply Static will automatically look at XML sitemaps as one of the sources it uses to discover URLs. That includes things like /wp-sitemap.xml and any sitemaps it links to. As long as WordPress is generating those sitemaps and they’re publicly accessible when you run the export, Simply Static will:
- Request /wp-sitemap.xml
- Follow the links to the child sitemaps
- Export those XML files as static files along with your pages
If you want explicit control, you can also tell Simply Static to include these sitemap URLs:
- Go to Simply Static → Settings → Include pages and files.
- Under Additional URLs, add (one per line).
- Run a full export.
That ensures those XML files are explicitly included, even if they weren’t discovered automatically by the crawler for some reason.

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] Zip file is invalidThanks for that additional info. It sounds like you may have to check your file or directory permissions and take a look to see if you have any security rules like a firewall that may be blocking access.
Thanks so much for sharing this feedback. I’ll share this with the team as we continue to develop and improve Simply Static. We appreciate it!

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] slow on WPLocalThanks for sharing this. It could be possible that Xammp is more optimized for your environment and parses the items more quickly than local. That’s why it’s always a good idea to try different development environments to see what works best for your particular needs.

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] Broken Links that WP FixesHey! Thanks so much for sharing this feedback. I’ll share this with the team as we continue to develop and improve Simply Static. Really appreciate it!
The issue may be caused by going from a Windows environment with XAMPP to a Linux environment directly. The two environments typically use slashes differently. In Simply Static you could try changing your Settings delivery method from “ZIP Archive” to “Local Directory”. Let Simply Static export the site into a folder on your PC, then create a ZIP from that folder using Windows Explorer or a tool like 7-Zip. Upload that ZIP to cPanel and extract it.
Alternatively, you could keep using the ZIP from Simply Static generated in XAMPP, but extract it locally on your PC and upload the extracted files to the demo server via FTP instead of using the “Extract” function in cPanel.

In reply to: [Simply Static - The Static Site Generator] Zip file is invalidHello lauw. It may be possible that the ZIP package is not available in your hosting environment or that the system resources needed to ZIP the created files exceeds what is available on your server. I would recommend contacting your hosting provider to see if any errors are occurring and to double check that the ZIP package is available and installed on your server.
Hey @goldielocks69, thanks for the additional question. During the export process, Simply Static will make requests from your server and your website, so the IP addresses would be yours, no external dependency.
