I would also recommend to try out the WPPerformanceTester plugin. It can measure the actual performance of your server.

    Hi @joeguiney,

This is indeed super slow. I don’t think is has something todo with the plugin though. Please see https://playmusicontheporchday.com/. They have more than 2400 locations (many images) but the site loads much quicker. Their map feels a little bumpy because they don’t use Pin Clustering, but that’s not your issue.

    We can try this:

    • Provide a page without the map, just for speed comparison.
    • Disable Marker Categories and see if it makes any difference. You can activate it afterwards and all categories will be back again.
    • Disable any Page Speed or Caching Plugin.
    • Talk to your hoster if they see some potential to get you more performance.
    • If nothing helps, please create an export of your locations and send it to me (email). I will then try to re-create the issue locally.

    Best Regards,
    Daniel

    Hi @joeguiney,

Any news from your hosting on this?

    Hi @angeloevora,

Thanks for reaching out. Here’s my feedback on your requests:

    1. No this is not planned. Because for non-registered users the map would be always empty then. But what you could do instead is putting the map in an area that is accessable for registered users only.
    2. Not yet, but this is planned actually. With a next release there will be a Shortcode available that just renders the “+” Button. It can be placed anywhere. I will keep you in the loop on this.

    Daniel

    Hi @philippdialoggestalter,

Thanks for reaching out (on all channels 😀)!

I like the idea of having a list view of all locations. As you might know a gallery shortcode (does the same but only for images) is available already.

I’ll have to think a bit more about it but probably two new features would make sense here:

    • A Shortcode to list all locations. “Fields” would be an attribute that should be used to define the data to be shown for each location.
    • A public PHP function that does the same but returns an array of locations. A developer could use this data to build something out of it (e.g. search, sorting, discussions, etc).

This won’t be part of the next release but should not take too long. I’ll keep you in the loop.

    What do you think?

    Best Regards,
    Daniel

    Hey @joeguiney,

Thank you! This is already helping me a lot. I will include a fix with the next update that will catch this error.

    Technical background:
The PHP version on your server does not load the EXIF library, which is necessary to rotate uploaded images into the correct orientation.

    Quick Solution:
You should check your server if the EXIF library can be activated. Normally this is the default.

Let me know if this works for you.

@cybernijntje You can choose from multiple markers (5 different colors). And with the PRO version you can upload any custom marker.

Hmm.. I don’t have an explanation why there is such a delay. The Plugin code is pretty straight forward and is probably not what is causing this delay. Maybe your Server Hosting does have some additional caching mechanism baked in?

I would suggest you test the PRO version with the auto-publish feature. You can start a free 7-day trial and if you need more time on top just let me know.

PS: I will activate the auto-publish feature (for the rest of the day) on my Demo page. So you can try there as well.

Hi. Not sure if I’m getting you right. I’m trying to clarify a bit:

You don’t need caching to show the map and the locations. Actually the caching is what prevents from showing all current locations on your site.

The solution is to deactivate caching in WP Rocket specifically for this page where the map is included. In my last post I shared a link on how to do this with WP Rocket.

    Technical Background:
The Caching results in showing an “old” version of the map. And it is not triggered to renew its cache.

    Does this help @heleneis?

    Hi @cybernijntje,

I had to rearrange the Settings page a bit. Now you’ll find the auto-publish feature under Settings > Open User Map > Advanced > Auto-Publish for unregistered users.

It’s a PRO feature though. I think it has always been this way.

Let me know if you need more info.

Yeah, good to hear! From the plugin site I can’t trigger the cache clearing as there are too many different caching plugins available. Instead you should exclude the page with the map from caching. See this article on how to do this.

If you are happy feel free to drop a quick review as it helps my plugin to reach a broader audience.

Anyway, welcome on board and thumbs up for your project.

    Hi @heleneis,

Okay, now I can see your 4 locations but not mine. Are you sure they all have status “published”?

However – in my testing these 4 locations show up in Chrome, Safari and Firefox. Without errors. Can you confirm that they do not show up right in your Browser?

Maybe it’s a Cashing Issue. Do you use any Page Speed / Caching Plugin? If so – please disable and try if it makes a difference.

    Daniel

    Hey @heleneis,

I checked your page but currently there are no locations available at all. I just added a location for testing. Could you please approve it by setting it public?

    Best Regards,
    Daniel
