The free version does work well with almost all autoresponder (including Mailchimp). Make sure you use the pure HTML code from Mailchimp, not the javascript code of the form.

About the autoresponder code, you should use the HTML code only, not javascript.
If you use HTML code, you can go back and change the code any time you want.
