For tracking across multiple domains, we recommend:
- Inserting the same measurement ID (e.g G-123456789) being used with MonsterInsights on https://www.website1.com into https://shop.website1.com
- Setting up cross domain tracking for both sites
Using the same measurement ID is needed by Google Analytics in order to correctly track the sessions between domains.
To locate the measurement ID that MonsterInsights is using, please log into your WordPress admin and go to Insights » Settings » Google Authentication, and note what is listed as the Active Profile.
To manually set up your Google Tag on your non-WordPress site, please go to analytics.google.com » Admin » Data streams.
Then from here:
- Open the data stream and verify it’s the correct measurement ID.
- Follow the steps to Install manually under View tag instructions (found at the bottom of the page)
It also might be possible that the third party service has a Google Analytics integration and cross domain tracking feature themselves.
Something else worth noting is since the third party website is not a WordPress site, MonsterInsights will not be able to do any advanced tracking such as outbound link tracking, download link tracking and etc. This will need to be manually coded in or configured for the non-WordPress site.
